Ocean Shores Clam Festival Events

The clam festival’s schedule varies from year to year, so be sure to reference the festival’s website before attending for the most up to date information. However, two of our staff’s favorite activities are listed below.

How to Dig Razor Clams Ocean Shores Razor Clam Festival

If you’ve never learned how to dig razor clams, head to the Ocean Shores Razor Clam Festival! Experts from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife will teach you everything you should know about clamming equipment, finding clams, cleaning clams, and cooking clams. After learning the fundamentals of clamming, head across the street, and get your clamming license. You can then officially partake in the clamming competition and search for the largest/small oyster on the beach. The local experts judge the entered clams by carefully measuring them.

Clam Chowder Contests

The clam chowder contests are separated into two categories, amateur and professional. The amateur clam chowder contest is a relatively laid back process. You serve your clam chowder to the panel of local celebrity judges, and they blindly sample each entered soup. The winning chowders will win cash, plaques, and more!
